My latest discovery! Empty Rainex - Good Stuff

    Post  leed1805 Sat Aug 27, 2011 4:20 am

Your right rainx - fantastic stuff, amazing to watch the beads of water pinging off of the screen!!
A product I have been using since my car was re-sprayed is Greased Lightning Showroom Shine, you spray it on and polish it off, its a no wash car cleaning system. I must say I was very sceptical untill I used the product myself but I would recommend it, as my car is only for weekend fun I dont wash her anymore Im out and about all of Saturday and Sunday and on the Sunday evening I spray on the showroom shine and polish it off with some help from my daughter. Its not cheap but it lasts ages, you can buy it direct from the Greased Lightning website. There are other products that do the same, but I think this stuff is the best. Good luck sorting your screen leak out thats a bugger! Crying or Very sad

I have just discovered something that I'd like to share with the group. I'm assuming it is something a lot of people are familiar with and will take for granted but for me it was a revelation!

H-reg Hetty, (like a lot of xjs's as I understand) has pretty rubbish wipers, I was shopping in morrisons the other day and found something called Rainox, it claimed to form a hydrophobic layer between glass and rainwater, making it bead and run off the screen easier. I picked it up and walked back to the trolley and was stopped by a bloke who claimed it was brilliant (I've never had my purchases critiqued in a supermarket before!)
anyway it turns out he was right, after cleaning the old girl I applied it to all the glass, allowed it to dry, then wiped it off as directed. Now in light drizzle at anything more than 45mph the screen just clears itself! Genuinely brilliant product!

Only issue I do have is a slightly leaky top edge screen seal, and the increased water rolling up it is leading to increased ingres Sad
Now I know I really need to remove the screen and replace the seal, might as well replace the screen too as it's beginning to delaminate. But for the time being I wonder if there's a quick fix- if it was a bath leaking I'd just use a smear of silicon around the seam but am thinking thatd look shoddy on Hetty, is there a screen sealant that I can just apply for the time being till I get round to replacing the screen?

Either way, Rainox (I'm sure other equally good brands are available) up until a coupla days ago I never realised it existed, now wouldn't want to go wet weather driving without it.
